Morning at the Park

This week has been my best week so far (pain wise) since my surgery. So, with the great fall weather outside, we headed to the park yesterday.

And Layne is starting to hold her head up so good...

Potty Toys!

While celebrating my dad's birthday this weekend, Evan randomly came up to me and said he wanted to go to the potty. Me, being the not-at-all-interested-in-potty-training-my-toddler-while-taking-care-of-a-newborn mommy that I am, said 'sure, let's go try'.
To my amazement, and his I think, he pooped and peed on the potty!
He got to pick out a surprise at Walmart for being such a big boy...here's the pics of his new toy and some super cute big boy underwear.
**Evan is in no form completely potty trained now, it is still a huge work in progress**

Couldn't you just eat him up!!

Baby Quiz

I found this baby quiz on another mommy blog, so I am in no way taking credit for this post. I thought it was just cute and funny. Post your answers in the comments section of my post....this is for new and older mommies and daddies too! I posted my answers at the bottom of this post...

Ok, new mom: you read the books, took the classes, and discussed with other moms at length all-things-newborn. You have a general idea of how to keep this baby alive, healthy, and happy, but what do you do when the time comes to apply what you've learned in a real life setting? As the mother of now 3 small children, I have found myself in a few situations I hadn't considered before, and my reactions in those situations have at times surprised me. I'm curious what other moms have done in similar circumstances and what future moms think they would do if they were in that situation.

Post your answers in the "comments" section, and thanks for playing!

1. After a nice big feeding, Sweet Thing spits up--award-winning spit up of mass quantities. Spit up all over her, all over you and in your hair, all over the carpet, all over the couch. What do you clean first?

A. The Couch: People can be bathed, but this furniture has to last for years.
B. Sweet Thing: It's just bad parenting to let her be covered in this messiness for a minute longer than she has to be.
C. Yourself: I can't properly care for a baby if I'm wearing stinky messy spit-up from head to toe.
D. The Carpet: I do it now, or Stanley Steamer does it later.

2. Ahh...the sound of silence...but you know from experience you have only 5 minutes of free time. How do you spend it?

A. Cleaning
B. Flip through a magazine or watch a little TV
C. Put on a little makeup
D. Play on the computer

3. Your mom just stopped by and has offered to look after Sweet Thing for one hour while you have some "Mommy" time. What do you do first?

A. Take a nice long shower...it's been a few days
B. Eat lunch. You haven't enjoyed a single meal uninterrupted since the day Sweet Thing was born.
C. Take a nap. You can't remember the last time you got more than four consecutive hours of sleep.
D. Socialize! check emails, play on Facebook, return phone calls, get a manicure with a girlfriend, etc.
E. Exercise.

4. Sweet Thing just spit her pacifier onto the floor, and you don't have a spare at the moment. You're now faced with the decision:

A. Five second rule! Pop that sucker back in her mouth.
B. Run it under water for a few seconds. That's good enough.
C. Stop everything and sterilize the pacifier.

5. During a diaper change, Sweet Thing pees and poops on you. You are feeling:

A. Amused
B. Horrified and disgusted
C. A little grossed out, but otherwise ok. It comes with the territory.

6. When a friend asks how you're holding up with the demands of your newborn, you are:

A. Upbeat and positive, but not too positive: you don't want to complain openly about your precious gift from God or make Sweet Thing sound like a burden. At the same time you don't want give the impression you think your baby is better than their baby.
B. Completely truthful: If she's the world's most perfect baby, you don't hesitate to brag. If she's wearing you out, you're not afraid to reveal how difficult he can be and voice your feelings of frustration and inadequacy.
C. So glad somebody finally asked! You love Sweet Thing, but it really helps to have another mom to vent to about all the challenges of motherhood. Take this opportunity to complain, moan, and cry. Misery loves company!

Shannon's quiz answers:
1. B, baby comes first.
2. A, I always feel a little better when my house is not in shambles.
3. A, A clean mommy is a happy mommy. It does crack me up that exercise even made this list.
4. B, I actually stick it in my mouth if there is no running water around...but I also try to carry some spares.
5. A, Layne has some impressive projectile poops. Seriously.
6. B, I'm an open book.

Sittin' Pretty

This little cutie pie was wide eyed this morning while her brothers were at school.

Why? you ask....

because I have discovered the best gifts for moms:

It's a Swaddle Me blanket (we got ours at BabiesRUs). Go pick one up the next time you need a baby gift. Seriously, I may go buy 5 more just for Layne. She slept 6 hours straight last night and I am feeling very rested today :)

Bama Babies

Saturday we had a get together with Erik, Jill, the Tuckers and Spraders to watch the AL vs Duke game. The kids had the best time playing in Jill and Erik's backyard. Layne slept the whole time when she wasn't eating and Melanie is trying her best to start crawling (I don't know how we didn't get a picture of her!).

Layne's 6 wk checkup

Today was Layne's 6 week checkup. Thanks to Nana for going with us since I can't carry the pumpkin seat yet!

Here are Layne's 6 week stats:
Weight: 12 lbs, 9 oz (95%)
Height: 22 1/4 (75 %)
She is wearing mostly 6 month size clothing and barely still in size 1 diapers!

I tried to take some cute pictures of her today because I had her dressed up but she wasn't having it. Her brothers immediately came to kiss away her tears.

Chris' 36th Bday Weekend

We went to the lake for me to recover on Chris' Birthday weekend. I slept and was drugged up on pain medication most of the weekend. Chris got some cute pictures of the kids in the sun room at my parent's house.

Happy Birthday to my sweet husband! I love you so much!

The boys made Chris a birthday card - Things We Like To Do With Daddy...
  • wrestling
  • play baseball
  • play football
  • make cookies
  • waterballoon fights
  • give kisses
  • play on the playground
  • play mario

Tubal Complications

On Sept 2, I had to go to the ER for severe stomach pain. My doctor had to do another surgery on Sept 7 to remove my tubes completely because of great infection from my tubal 2 weeks prior. After a week in the hospital, I am on my way to recovery, slowly but things are better day by day.

While Chris stayed with me in the hospital, my 3 babies went to stay at Nana and Papa's house. While I know they were taken care of and spoiled to no end, I missed them terribly and it was by far the worst part of the whole ordeal (tears were shed daily). I really appreciate my mom and dad sacrificing sleepless nights and long days while Chris and I were away.
Thanks to everyone else also for phone calls and prayers, and to my Aunt Susie for coming to the hospital and making sure my medications were the best that they could be.

Here are some pictures my mom took of the kids during my hospital stay. She even got a smile from Layne on camera.
